Nir White Onyx Quarry

Location of the quarry

Bagh e Bid Marble and Travertine Quarry started to be exploited in 2003. The Quarry is located in the south of Nir City and 12 km away from Yazd City along the granite intrusive mass of Shirkuh.

Geological characteristics of the Mine

This region, in terms of structural location, is situated between the zones of the Central Iranian Microplate and the folded Zagros zone. This is tectonically under the influence of the grand Dah Shir Fault extending in the northwest-southeast direction.  This fault is considered a major fault in the region and has caused the creation of tensile structures. The tensile structures related to the Dah Shir Fault have most probably influenced the mineralization of travertine and operated as a passage for ore bearing solutions to the extent that today travertine-producing springs are partly active in the region. However, what is undeniable is the intrusive impact of Shirkuh on the emergence of ore-forming hydrothermal solutions as a transformational factor in the marble-forming process.

Quarry Products:

Surrounding area of the Bagh e Bid Quarry went through a set of exploratory studies of about 3.7 square kilometers. Results obtained from excavation and field observation led to the detection of an area rich in travertine and also marble stones of high quality extending beneath travertine layers throughout the area.

The Bagh e Bid Mine, at the present time, is busy producing three products: marble, traonix and travertine, all of varying quality grades. It should be also noted that the greenish cream marble rocks abundant in the Quarry are of such high quality that makes them proper to be supplied to domestic and foreign markets.
