Persian Marble Quarry
Location of the quarry
This Quarry is located in the south-west of Khor Township
and 320 km away from Isfahan City. Shahab Sang Mining Industries launched
its exploitation in 2003.
Khor and Biabanak region operates as one of the
major marble producing centers of the country. Khor & Biabanak Marble Quarry
is located near other mines of global commercial reputation.
Geological Characteristics of the quarry
This zone belonging to the Cretaceous Period
contains orbitolina- and ammonite-bearing limestones which due to the influence
of tectonic processes and their resultant pressure went through varying degrees
of transformation. And all these have made the zone suitable for exploitation
of one of the most beautiful decorative marble stones.
Quarry Products
The Quarry supplies pinkish cream marble stones having
red sinusoidal veins as decoration; and calcite (CaCo3) is the major
constituent of these marble stones.
The Khor and Biabanak Quarry is currently under simultaneous
preparation and exploitation (although in a limited capacity); and the annual
production of the Quarry amounts to 25,000 metric tons. Marble blocks are
produced in varying proportions and of different quality ratings including
export-proper, high quality, grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3. The dominant method
employed for extraction is the wire saw mining.
